What is your town or area's claim to fame?
by free2beme inevery where you live, the local area has something about it that is either famous for something good or something bad.
as an example, you go to one town and it may have the historial site of a famous war battle.
you go to another an it might be the place something was invented, or the birthplace of someone famous.

I live in Vancouver, Washington on the northern shore of the Columbia River. The River is the border between Washington & Oregon and Portland is about 2 miles from my house.
The Hudson Bay Trading Company was founded here.
We also have the largest July 4th fireworks display west of the Mississippi.
On a clear day (which is rare) you can see both Mt. St. Helens & Mt. Hood from my house.

I have a Sony 65" rear-projection widescreen TV. I love it. I watch a lot more DVDs than I do TV. The DVD picture looks very sharp. Our digital cable doesn't come in quite as clearly however.

Things YOU eat, that other people think is weird.
by misanthropic inthis mornings events have got me thinking about things.
i love peanut butter, not the sweet kind but i like the old fashioned peanut butter, usually laura scudder's with no sugar or preservatives - it just tastes better imo.
i put it on everything including pancakes which are really good with peanut butter and maple syrup.

I like to suck down raw oysters with lemon juice & cocktail sauce by the dozens. Cooked oysters, on the other hand, are quite nasty. For some reason, they get really gamey when they're cooked.
Peanut butter seems to be a popular topic in this thread. Here's one: I love a nice, greasy bacon cheeseburger slathered with chunky peanut butter. Creamy & delicious!
I do a lot of salmon fishing. My wife gets disgusted when I filet my catch and pop pieces of raw salmon meat into my mouth as I work.
I like to eat hot dogs cold right out of the package. I will also open cans of soup/chili/raviolis and eat them cold out of the can with a spoon. My wife is appalled by this practice as well.

That's What I'M Talkin' About!
by Farkel incall me a curmudgeon.
there are just some expressions in today's vernacular that are just idiotic, and "that's what i'm talkin' about" is one of these.
it is so ghetto.. several people are saying 'blah, blah, blah, de blah and more de blah..." suddenly, a dimwit in the group hears something that dimwit didn't even mention but happens to like the subject and then dimwit blurts out, "now that is what i'm talkin' about!".

It makes my blood boil when I hear people use the term "hook(ed) up" in reference to sexual activity. Also the term "off the hook" can ruin my day if I hear someone use it. "The bomb" is another one. I also can't stand elaborate handshakes or "knuckles". Girls in trucker hats piss me off too.

JW Terminology
by KW13 inok guys, list the ones ya know.. the truth/truth = the truth according to jw's is their religion.
for example someone baptized as a jw is baptized in the truth, whereas someone baptized elsewhere is not.. new light/light = a better understanding of the current status quo or 'light' in general which is just knowledge, new light allows for a complete change in beliefs without exception.. god's word = mainly the bible but anything else published by the wbt tract society is also acceptable.. true christians = refers only to jehovah's witnesses or suitable examples from the bible.. apostates = anyone who has been a jehovah's witness who opposes their beliefs (not necessarily people or individuals) and shares how they feel about the watchtower bible and tract society with anyone.
a person who hasn't been a jehovah's witness but does clearly oppose their message and beliefs may also be referred to as an apostate.. experiences = stories that will upbuild and encourage jw's.

"The Friends"-Your fellow drones. Membership not available for Worldy Folk.
"Glean"-I really hate this one. "What did you glean from today's public Talk?"
"Muff 'N'Egg"- A piss-poor facsimile of an Egg McMuffin once served at District Conventions that you could purchase using food tickets.
"Winnow"-This one just sounds ugly coming out of your mouth. Ugh.

My dog, Ronin. Husky/rottweiler, male, 10 years old.
Ronin loves to (besides go fishing) howl & sing. Sometimes he sounds just like Chewbacca. The funniest is when I play guitar and he sings along.
Our cat, Ripley. Female, 4 years old.
Ripley loves to get all whacked out on catnip and chase the laser pointer dot around. This cat will literally climb walls in hot pursuit.

what's your sign baby? ;)
by freedomloverr inwhere we live is a very *new agey*, *earthy* area.
when i was a witness i never thought twice about my astrological sign or how it relates to anyone else.
here, people are always asking what my sign is and i've really been entertained by how i see patterns with people in my life and how i've noticed i'm actually attracted to certain *signs* .
